What to expect

Opening up to a psychologist can be daunting. At Anchor Psychology Clinic we understand that sometimes showing up is the hardest step, and it’s our privilege to show up with you. Our aim is to empower you through increased awareness to thoughts, behaviours and feelings, to make changes that long outlast our sessions together.

Your first session with a psychologist is an assessment session. This means your psychologist will be asking you lots of questions about your reason for coming and getting to know you. After the assessment, your psychologist will create a personalised treatment plan based on your goals and symptoms which is shared with you for your feedback. Once the plan is agreed, treatment begins. Treatment is based on evidence-based talking therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or Schema Therapy.

How we work

Recover. Regain. Relive.

Assessment

The first consultation is an assessment session, where you and your psychologist get to know each other and make a treatment plan together.

Consultations

Active treatment begins. Sessions are usually weekly to start, then reduce in frequency as you master new skills.

Maintenance

Once you’re more confident in using strategies discussed, treatment moves to maintenance phase. Consultations are infrequent and focus on supporting you as you apply your skills to whatever life throws at you.
